• Arms and Armor; this display is European in nature showing art over a 500 year span displaying armor, ceramics, jewelry and more.
• Asian; imagine a fantastic collection spanning all of Asia from China, Korea, Japan, India and all of the Near and Middle East. Can you just imagine what you’re able to see? The art, sculptures, and vast numbers of archeological contributions make up a 35,000 piece collection! Just amazing!
• European Painting and Sculpture, original works of art spanning from the 12 century to the 20th century, including works in both Impressionists and Post- Impressionist work. This particular collection includes exquisite rare works from the Spanish, Italian, and Northern European works of art in paintings from the 15th century.
• Thorne Miniature Rooms: This Chicago Art Museum collection is a little mind boggling, and one that I particularly liked. The exhibit are miniature American furnishings constructed to scale but they range anywhere from one inch to one foot. The details put into these miniatures are stunning. It kinda leaves you scratching your head as you walk out of the exhibit, asking how in the world these were put together.
Family Exhibits: Now although these collections are a viewing only collection, there is a specific collection for the family called Family Exhibits where kids can touch the art. It’s called the Touch Gallery, another fascinating one is called Big Small. Showing how things that are large would look if they were small and how small things would look if they became large. Additionally the kids are encouraged to create their own art using their imaginations. The Art Institute of Chicago and Food: This Museum is fun for the whole family, and when everyone is ready for a bite to eat there is a café here, it’s the Garden Café or the Terzo Piano restaurant.

Or if you’re in the mood for more of a bar and grill type restaurant just across the street is a Bennigan’s restaurant, a grill with an Irish flavor. Great food and service.
